2021 OL Camron Richardson Drawing In-State SEC Interest
By PAUL JONES2021 offensive lineman prospect Camron Richardson will experience a change of scenery this season. After spending last season at Callaway, Richardson transferred to Madison Central High School this summer.
So far, it’s been a smooth transition, said the 6-foot and 295-pound Richardson.
“It’s been a good transition so far and it’s a good environment,” Richardson said. “I think it will push me to be a lot better since it is (Class) 6A ball. The coaches here said they will have me at right guard and they like what I bring to the table. I’m glad I’m here now and I just had to do what was best for me and my family.“I want to help us win 6A and get that ring. We’ve got some talent and Jimmy (Holiday) is a good quarterback and we have a good offensive line with Duke Arnold at running back. We’ve got two very good upcoming junior linebackers, too, in the (Joseph and Josiah) Perryman brothers.”
In preparations for that junior season, Richardson is also coming off a productive summer on the camp circuit. He took in a couple of in-state SEC camps and noted of his focus in those showings.
“It was a good experience going to camps,” said Richardson. “I went to Memphis, Ole Miss and Mississippi State and I got some good coaching. The main focus was working with my feet and my hands. Those are the biggest things I improved this summer and I got more physical, too.”
At the Mississippi State camp in late June, Richardson left a good impression on offensive line coach Marcus Johnson. In fact, he was asked to put in some overtime work after normal camp drills concluded.“That was a good time and I didn’t expect that to happen after camp,” Richardson added. “But Coach Johnson wanted me to work extra and it just shows if you put in work, good things happen. And Coach Johnson wants me to start contacting him and said he would be in touch once they can start calling us on Sept. 1st. I do like their program and it’s a good family environment there.”
This season Richardson wants to get more looks at a few programs and noted of the teams showing interest thus far.
“I’ve been getting interest from Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Jackson State,” said Richardson. “And I want to go check out some games this season. Most definitely, I’m going to see Mississippi State and Ole Miss, and I want to get up to Memphis, too.”
